TRAITS
Egoistical, charming.
SUMMARY
Anaris of The Forgotten Ones. Charming on the surface, a condescending dick otherwise. He wasn't popular among the ancient elves: Felassan portrayed him as being an easily deceived, egoistical fool; Mythal called him a foolish, selfish monster, and he and Solas clearly had issues with each other. He was also intent on 'liberating the elves' by taking Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain's place, so they definitely weren't fond of him either. I get the impression that he's the kind of guy that enters a room and everyone who knows him groans.
While what spirit he is isn't mentioned, we can extrapolate from him being a warlord and his behaviour that he was probably a spirit of Duty warped into Envy, who was at one point in his life not quite the monster he currently is.
He uses weakness in the Veil post-Solas' attempt to tear it down to try to reach Thedas after thousands of years of being trapped in the Fade, and fails - but! For the sake of rp, here are some alternative outcomes:
- Manages to cleave himself into the world, but he's basically like Solas when Solas awakens - deprived of all his strength, incredibly weak apart from his agelessness.
- Instead of being pulled back intothe locker Solas shoved him in his prison, he's pulled into the wider Fade and is able to interact with people there. Exceptionally salty about this outcome, even if it's a slight improvement.
- Guy get stuck in the Lighthouse specifically either post-Bellara's quest or as a result of trying to leave his cage at the start of the game.
- If you come up with some reason for our characters to interact, go for it. I'll run with it.
He's terrified of 'its Eye' and found a 'mysterious substance that consumes all magical energy' and believed a physical body would provide him 'succour in the storm', but that's Dragon Age 5 lore, so I largely won't be touching it.

APPERANCE
Anaris typically wears a black robe with a hood, with horns protruding from it. Presumably these horns are part of his outfit and not part of his body. He typically wears a silver mask with the outfit, which obscures his face. 5'10 or so. Pinched waist.
Beneath the mask (or what little you can see through clipping), he has pale blue-white eyes, pale complexion, and white hair. Also a boatload of black makeup around his eyes.

OTHER
CANON RELATIONSHIPS
Cyrian: wow what a mess. Anaris was into this guy right up until he stopped singing him praises and started thinking for himself.
Bellara: [WASTED] Briefly considered Bellara to have potential before she drop-kicked him back into the Fade.
Rook: There's no playthrough where a positive relationship with Rook is possible. Rook calls him a 'second-tier loser' and obliterates him. Which is impressive, but obviously it hasn't exactly endeared Rook to Anaris. However, I love their dynamic and want to see them snipe at each other.
The Evanuris: Ohhhh he hates these guys so much. He says it frequently and wants desperately to depose them. For selfish reasons, of course; he wants to be the big guy in charge and is envious of how much power and prestige they have, while insisting they're, in fact, envious of him (false!!!). Mythal just straight-up called him a selfish fool. Apparently Elgar'nan called him 'Anar-ass', which is funny as fuck. Literally no one respects this man.
Solas: Lore suggests they might have been allies at some point, but their ideological stances are completely incompatible so I doubt that lasted long. If Felassan's story is true, Solas probably dealt with him like he dealt with some of the other warlords (hence Anaris accusing Solas of 'crimes against the Forgotten Ones' in the story and claiming to have been 'betrayed again' with Cyrian), and Anaris proceeded to be annoying about it.
SHIPPING You want to ship? With this guy?? Go right ahead, I guess! I don't have any ships with him, but I'm certainly willing to explore that mess.
CONTENT Just a heads up that it's been a long time since I last played the DA games (other than Veilguard), and I'm in the process of replaying them now. It'll take me a bit to recover my lore knowledge.
LORE DUMP IN COMMENTS vvvvvv I'm throwing everything relevant I can find down there.
